East Lake

We recently got the opportunity to play East Lake Golf Club, home course of Bobby Jones and the yearly PGA Tour Championship. East Lake was our round the day before we headed off to play the famed links of Scotland in mid-June. Although I have lived in Atlanta for a decade, this was my first chance to play the course and tour the clubhouse. Although it has a significant history especially in the development of one the golf history’s most famous players, the course doesn’t have the reputation of some of the other high ranked courses in the area. Thus, we went into it looking forward soaking up the history of the grounds as much as enjoying he course. I’d have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The course recently flipped the nines to end on the former par 5 ninth hole instead of the long par 3 eighteenth. This was a great move as the new back nine is much stronger that the front side and much more memorable.

Although the course hosts an important tournament every year for the PGA tour and the clubhouse is a museum to the early history of golf in the southeastern U.S., the course itself is underrated in my opinion. I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked. There were more than a few memorable holes that I hope to get a crack at again some day.
